Lovely sunflower,
There’s something in the air. A bird wakes up to life and sees everything for the first time. The feeling is contagious. It’s all over nature right now and it makes me feel like I'm a part of it too.
Do you remember that feeling?
A time when you were so optimistically curious about life because you didn't know any limitations, failures, or disappointments. When you get an urge to try something for the first time without knowing or even thinking about the consequences.
Let’s say you try knitting for the first time. You don’t have any expectations of what will happen. You don’t even know how hard or easy it’s going to be. You don’t know if you'll like it. The only driving force behind picking up some yarn and start knitting is pure curiosity and wonder. What would it be like to knit?
It's usually when people (including myself) are in pain that they reach a turning point. But it’s not the pain itself that creates the desire to change, it’s the curiosity of wondering if there’s anything more.
Maybe I don’t have to live like this? Maybe there’s another way?
Without curiosity, life becomes stagnant. The moment we tell ourselves that we can't improve our situation, is the moment that belief becomes true. Why bother trying to change something if we are so sure it will never happen?
Research is the death of curiosity.
It may sound strange since we're taught that researching something is what we do when we want to learn more about a specific topic. But have you ever asked yourself why you’re researching it? It's probably because you want to decide if it's worth your effort. This will lead you to come up with different reasons (or excuses) why you shouldn't try it. "I can never afford that, I don’t have the physique for it, I’m too old".
If you allow yourself to go down that road, nothing will ever be worth it. I’m not exaggerating. Your mind will always find a reason not to take that first step forward. That is, of course, if you let it. It’s time to give up the idea of finding the perfect routine, the perfect place, the perfect situation.
Perfection is never the cause of happiness anyway. But curiosity could be. Wanting to see what happens next could be the only reason we need to keep going.
The beauty of it all is that curiosity can never be lost. You can always ignore the voice in your head that tells you otherwise. Because deep down you know it will always find a way to restrain you. Even though it appears to be on your side, it doesn't always know what's best for you.
After all, a bird doesn't even realize that it's not on the ground when it opens its eyes and looks down at the world from above. Flying doesn't even cross its mind. It just gets kicked out of its nest and spreads its wings.
💚 Question: Would you like to spread your wings too?
So important. Curiosity is a favorite core value of mine. Curiosity is an offspring of love and stumps resistance and fear. As we get older, we research instead of following our curiosity to the true experience of life. Obsessed with preparation and safety. And as a result, excuses.
You can be an expert without ever truly lived. But you cannot truly live without the curiosity to experience life. And of course, the less we experience, the more fear grows. xo
Currently rediscovering curiosity. It feels like it’s been dormant for years and now feels a bit overwhelmed, unsure where to draw its energy from. But hey, learning is is in motion :)
